Course Outline

Students will undertake 7 Key Modules, made up of 60 subjects.

Certificate 1: Pet Care

This certificate provides the foundational knowledge to work with or keep pets at home. Aside from introducing you to a variety of common pet species, you’ll also learn about the law and licensing requirements, and animal charities and societies. The certificate will focus on common pets such as cats, dogs and rabbits, and you’ll learn to identify signs of ill health in pets, serious health problems in domestic pets and when to seek help from a qualified professional.

Certificate 2: Explore Vet Nursing

This introductory certificate is the perfect way to better understand what a vet nurse does and the different areas they are responsible for. You will discover what a day in the life of a veterinarian looks like, identify common health problems and behaviours in pets, and understand basic first aid and safety.

Certificate 3: Animal Health Care

This certificate covers a range of topics associated with providing animal health care including, dogs, cats, freshwater fish, horses, reptiles and amphibians, rodents and rabbits. It’s a broad, introductory certificate that has been designed to incorporate both theory and practical elements of animal care, to ensure it’s both engaging and relevant to the industry.

Certificate 4: Animal Diseases

This certificate has been designed for both animal health industry professionals and animal owners. You’ll discover ways to recognise diseases that may affect animals so that timely intervention can occur. You’ll learn how to take veterinary diagnostic samples, how to control bacterial and fungal diseases in various animals and how to identify domestic animal toxicology.

Certificate 5: Animal Welfare

Animal lovers with a true passion for their welfare will be truly excited about this certificate, which is designed to teach you how to recognise common health problems, better understand animal behaviour, and how to identify signs of ill health. The certificate aims to provide you with the skills to assist in veterinary facilities, understand safety and first aid, administration of animal health, preventative health care, routine health treatments, health problems in domestic pets and rehabilitation care.

Certificate 6: Animal Conservation

This certificate provides a broad-based introduction to wildlife conservation and their habitats. Learn the different ways we can help recover threatened species, be introduced to fauna and flora surveys, and learn about wildlife management and ecology. A relevant and important certificate covering topics for anyone passionate about animal conservation or wanting to work in the veterinary industry.

Certificate 7: Essential Animal First Aid

An excellent introductory certificate, you will learn the fundamentals of essential animal first aid – skills and knowledge that are vital for both pet owners and people wanting to pursue a career in the animal care industry. Learn the basic skills and techniques required to react calmly and confidently in an emergency situation with a variety of animals. You will also be introduced to common health issues in domestic pets and learn how to monitor and respond to different animal behaviours.
